August 14, 2010 EVENTS

“Oh Magoo, we did it again…”

SRRSCCA ran two complete events in one day AGAIN…SRRSCCA ran a DRIFT event and then turned right around and ran another NocternoX. Not only did we do this but also the DRIFT event was the maiden attempt for SRRSCCA and we set a new record for runs for a NocternoX event.

Drifters of southern Idaho and the surrounding area came together and put on one stellar show. Someone told me that the field was primarily made up of first time drifters. He also said that they showed a marked improvement as the day progressed. “AWESOME” was the pat response to my asking if they had fun. All you had to do was look around and see the sea of spectators lining the fences and parking lot to see that there was a huge interest.

I don’t think we’ve heard the last of the Drifters…I know first hand that they are making bigger plans, searching for more sites for future events.

NOCTERNOX…set a new record for runs and the most interesting aspect of the night was that we all ran the course from west to east in the first session and then…turned the timers to run the course in the east to west direction. Now to top the whole thing off WE ALL GOT TEN RUNS in the process. I didn’t personally calc the thing out this time but someone told me that there were over 830 runs. WAHOAH, now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

Remember when I told you to buckle up and that the board had plans to rock your socks for the 2010 season? WELL? If you don’t think this season is rocking so far then you need to just go back to sleep.

SRRSCCA is not only growing in membership but also expanding in different motorsports activities. Diversity? Yeah… Professionalism? Yeah… Entertaining? Yeah… Record Setting Season? Yeah… The Fun Factor Meter is pegged so try to keep up…LOL

See you all at the Races.

Your humble Editor,

Robert L.

I am writing this to end the conjecture and rumors about the future of the site and our use of it.

There was a simple break down in communications with the upper management and the people that worked with them. Simple as that. The use of the lot for AutoX was never really in “jeopardy.” Once they were told that the members that were putting on the event and over seeing the event that day had already formed a plan of attack on how to return the lot to its normal “look” the conversation was basically over.

We will be cleaning up the smaller area of concern..not just because it was asked by the expo. More so it is what a tenant does to keep a strong working relationship with a event site. It was never the “plan” to just leave it that way. It was always the plan to clean it up.

Anyone with further questions or comments please feel free to call me personally and I will address them at that time.

The List of possible sites will be updated with the outcome of the meeting. This information will be compiled and accessible to the general membership. The objections brought up by the site managers will be tracked and ideas and solutions will be put into place and more meetings will be set-up to attempt to gain access. This process will continue until the site management stops taking meetings to further the process. Those sites will be revisited annually just in an attempt to keep the contact list current, and build a relationship with the site.

The end goal here is to be able to do 21 events at 21 different sites in the area. Further then that the idea is to have running information that is tracked and worked on by a group of people with the end result being more event sites. No longer will someone saying “no” to our access be accepted as binding till the end of time. We are a part of a group (SCCA) that runs 6000+ event nationally per year. There is absolutely no reason that we cannot gain access to all of the possible sites.

Our Clubs next event is August 7th at Pleasant Valley Raceway, to get to the site go south on Pleasant Valley Road about 10.5 miles from Gowen road. A longer course will be used than before with an easier start and faster finish. the pit area will be next to the moto-x track by the concessions stands,

Pleasant Valley Raceway’s personel will water and grade the course before and during the day so we will have plenty of time to visit the concessions stand for food, drinks, and stuff. restrooms are also in the area where we will pit.

The club will not be providing fluids for rally cross events like we do at autox’s, When the events start being cash positive we will start doing so but at this point it is not possible. so bring plenty of water or visit the consessions stand, and bring sun screen.

Leo will have the real computer set up and show us how to do the timing correctly with it, so we should have results quicker and as we will have the trailer there we will have the display set up. We will also have the loaner helmets available for the first time so con your friends into coming out to participate also.

Cost is $30.00 for members and the $15.00 weekend membership for non members.

Registration is at 8:00 and drivers meeting around 9:30 to 10:00, runs will start shortly there after and go until we are all tired, out of gas, or the sun goes down

This is a very laid back type of event and we have always had fun runs after the timed runs, put plenty of fuel in your car, as the course is @1.2 miles long.

See you all there,
Carl

I don’t know about all of you but it was nice to get some seat time again…

I was talking to Bob Roark about a week ago and he was saying that it’s been a long stretch since our last race. “I think I’ve got some withdrawals going on here. I need to get back out and dodge some cones again soon” I know what you mean Bob; I was going through the same thing myself.

What a night huh? Although things got started about 45 minutes late we still got 9 runs in and even finished a just a tad ahead of schedule.

They told me to build a course something around 35 seconds average. After looking at the RAW times…the majority of you were in the 37 to 40 second range…I missed the goal by that much…SORRY, but it’s tough to design something that short and keep it FUN. I’ll try harder next time. By the way I have to send a shout out to all those that helped me gather cones and build all the walls. Even with the Golf Cart I couldn’t have done it without you. On top of that it was hot as can be out there (The asphalt had to be near 135 degrees) and I didn’t hear a single complaint. Everyone worked well together and showed awesome TEAM spirit. So I send you all a coveted “ATTA-BOY”.

Anyway getting back to the course…it threw a couple of different aspects at most of you. The intent was to create parity and bunch everyone’s times up and be semi-fair to all cars. Directly off the starting line you had a couple of quick kinks (BTW they were both less than 90 degrees)…a little different from the drag race style starts you’re most accustomed to. Followed by a two cone slalom and a slightly decreasing right turn around the light pole (if you hadn’t notice it started out with a 27 ft radius and finished with a 25ft radius) followed by the semi-sweeper to the left. (You had to be patient and let the car set after the slight drop before hammering the gas here.) The course took you around the two nasty patches into a gate and another semi-sweeper into a couple of gates forming a reversing semi-straight stretch into a slight unweighting drop off into the banked right then left around a quick speed checking cone into the finish…

Here’s an interesting trivia calculation for you… If you multiply 83 cars times 9 runs you get 747 passes…HOWEVER, we lost a few cars after the first set of runs. So let’s say there were only 73 cars that came back for the second set of runs… (83 X 4) + (73 X 5) = 697 passes. Now let’s take 697 passes divided by 5.5 hours and that equals 126.75 passes per hour or 2.11 passes per minute. Then if you take into account how we stagger starts and use 697 passes as the baseline. Bottom line that is one pass every 28.4 seconds. Now that is a pretty amazing STAT considering that it doesn’t even take into account switching out different run groups and the couple of brief delays along the way…

Maybe that will give you an idea of why the starting line and grid people are so intent on getting you to move up and to the starting line in a quick and timely manner. I know it’s fun to joke, rib and just have fun with other drivers but let’s stay focused so we can keep things flowing…

I hear that DJ is going to try and get us 10 runs on the 14th event…SO keep this in mind when you’re in grid. Please stay close and ready at your car.

DJ is also going to try something we’ve been kicking around for a while. The plan is we’re going to take 5 runs in one direction on the course and then our second runs we’ll all drive the reverse direction…I can’t wait to see this play out…I expect it will be FUN…

Anyway, back to the racing… In the heat of the day cars were fighting for that coveted traction factor as the asphalt was “HOTTT” and on the greasy side. When the sun started dropping the times started dropping. There were two other drivers close to me and we were all trying to get down to our goal time. We all three made our goal but not until the sun went down and the track cooled.

See you all on the 14th…

Robert

This event will be know as the “two-way” event. Basically the course will be designed to run it both directions. So..the plan is as follows:

1st Session run the course west to east…each driver will get 5 runs.

Short break to alter the directional cones

2nd Session run the course east to west…each driver will get 5 runs.

A drivers best time for each session will count…those two times are added together and the sum is the total time for the event.

So…come out and have some fun trying out the two way event…

See you all there.
