SCCA Releases 2010 Tire Rack National Solo Schedule

Posted on December 15th, 2009 by Chris Wold

The 2010 Tire Rack Solo National Tour makes stops at all the classic autocross destinations. For the third year in-a-row, the Tire Rack Solo National Tour will begin with the Dixie Tour in Georgia. The Texas Tour is slated for the following weekend, though the location is still to be determined with three sites currently in the running. After stops in San Diego and then Wendover for the Western States Championship, the Tour makes the first of two visits to the popular Arkansas Aeroplex in Blytheville for the Eastern States Championship. Through the summer months, the Tour travels to Peru, Ind., Romulus, N.Y., and Packwood, Wash., which all offer excellent site seeing and the potential to include a family vacation in one’s Solo competition plans. Soloists will have the month of August off to prepare for the 2010 Tire Rack Solo National Championships, which return to Nebraska and the Lincoln Airpark, Sept. 7 – 10. The 2010 season concludes with a return to Blytheville for the Tri-State Tour.

2009 AutoX a year in review

Posted on December 14th, 2009 by DJ

For those that don’t know….I usually do this “article” at the end of every year. Totally my personal thoughts on the year, just one guy and his $0.02 of what he saw and thought of the past autox season. So on to the year in review…..

2009 AutoX: the year in review.

The season has been done for more then a month, and I am just getting time to do this. Well maybe its not due to just getting to it, more then anything; my life and the duties of the club have been in the front of my mind, and I kinda forgot.

First thing is first…I always look at my season and rate myself as a driver. I do so by looking at my efforts over the season, and I try to rate how much of my performance is me and how much its my car/set up.  For most of the year I was in the top 10 in RAW, or close to it. At summerfast last year I was 21st in PAX, this year I was 11th. So I did improve, I think. There were some outside factors that seemed to weigh on my mind during the year, so I always felt scattered and unable to concentrate. If I remember correctly I rated myself about 60/40 against the car last year. I think that I would bump that up to 65/35 this year.

Now for everything else.

23 events….Holy shit. That is a lot of events. What is funny, and most people don’t know, it could have been 25 with little effort. It was a banner year for us being invited to do events. We were invited to be the “main show” at the Big Boy Toy Expo. I doubt that any club had an event with strippers rolling around taking rides and hanging around all day. I don’t think I have ever seen Tim Parnell smile so much.

Driver Interview – Guy Pumpelly

Posted on December 10th, 2009 by Robert Lundbohm

Guy Pumpelly is our featured Driver this week.

Guy has been racing his sweet ’77 Datsun 280 “Z” since July of 2008. He said it wasn’t too pretty at first but has metamorphosis it into a thing of beauty. Here’s a link to show how it progressed http://zdoctor.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=6724365

His silver rocket is not just Handsome but it cooks on the course as well now. I was about to call it pretty but that just doesn’t seem descriptive enough for the animal it has become. It’s a bit of a hand full without power steering and sometimes he can’t keep up with the steering because of the Bowtie power, thus the cone penalties…that’s his story and he’s sticking to it… AHUH…Right Guy… ?????

A little history and detail about this BADASS “Z”… He’s named it “Urzula”. Guy first bought the car for $400 out of a field in 1997 as a restoration project and has been customizing it ever since. His engine of choice? A mid 1970’s Chevy 350 fueled by an Edelbrock 600cfm. Power is then sent to the rear via a T-5 tranny. Today it sports Eibach 2.5 coil over springs and 5 way adjustable Tokiko strut inserts, urethane bushings through out, a 1” front sway bar, a stock 2+2 rear sway bar with custom top strut bars from Ammermans custom Exhaust. Stopping power comes from a 2+2 brake booster, stock front brakes for now and cross drilled and slotted rear.

His next quest for the car is to install true LSD to help with forward bite.

SRRSCCA Photo Archive.

Posted on December 4th, 2009 by DJ

Chris Wold has been compiling an archive of all the autox pics. He has loaded and filed all of the autox event pics that he can find of the SRRSCCA events. He has it all together in one place that is very easy to scroll through and find yourself over the last 5 years. In the mutimedia section of the forum there is a thread dedicated to it.

This archive will feature photos from all the great photographers that come to our events and share thier work.  Currently Chris has been helping us with photos from the last 5 years, so his name shows up alot, but as the time moves on more and more photographers will be added to this great section.  We hope in the future we will continue to have the awesome support from our fellow photographers at our events.  We all know we deep down love photos of us hitting cones.
