Double Duty Dozen…Even #5, NocternoX 5-08-2010
We had a Dozen or more show up to Test-N-Tune…Then stuck around and raced in our first NocternoX for 2010. I was one of the Double Duty Dozen and will tell you that it was a long day. For those brave and dedicated suffering bodies pulling Double Duty. I send out an “Are you as stiff and sore as I am?” This 57 year old is paying the price for fourteen hours of FUN…my mind says Yes, Yes, Yes I can but my body is telling me, “No, No, No You can’t…” That’s it laugh all you want…just wait till you get up there in years guys…it’s eventually gonna happen to all of you so be nice…LOL
Test-N-Tune went pretty smooth. Everyone showed great sportsmanship and waited their turn at each of the sections. There were three different sections set up. (1) Slalom (2) a quick little hick-up turn into a decreasing radius turn and finally (3) a medium skid pad. Each section had undulating surfaces (positive and negative camber) playing into the equation. All of this added to the cars handling and driving characteristics. You could hear drivers working the throttle and playing with the course. There were several of us playing with and adjusting different aspects of our cars and everyone got some good seat time.
When Racing finally got under way for a moment there I thought I was transported BACK in time. You’ve got to picture this in your mind… I am watching Brian McGaha in a borrowed white Miata and hearing this…”Brian McGaha has fastest time of the day,” the announcer stated. WHAT??? Oh wait, maybe we should turn to page two for the rest of the story… Brain was the very FIRST car out and therefore did indeed briefly hold the fastest time of the day… Now when you put things into their proper perspective it all makes sense. (snicker, snicker)…His top time only time lasted for about 50 seconds as the very next car literally mangled his time. Sorry Brian but it’s going to take something a little more scary fast than a borrowed Miata to take and keep top spot. It’s all in good fun Bro.
