June 19, 2010 = History in the making?
Posted on June 4th, 2010 by Robert LundbohmJune 19th will go down in the annals of HISTORY for SRRSCCA. Have I got your attention yet? Yeah, I thought as much… You’re ALL going to be a part of HISTORY.
Ok, so here it is…SRRSCCA will be doing something I don’t think too many clubs can Claim. We’re going to run two events simultaneously. Yeah, you read that right. You could say a DoubleHeader day of RACING…I like that; it has a nice ring to it.
Let me try to put all of this into perspective so you understand just how much of a challenge this will be. SRRSCCA will be using TWO Separate Timing Systems, TWO Separate Tech Teams, TWO Separate Safety Stewarts, TWO Separate Event Masters, TWO Separate Insurance policies, Two Separate of everything. Are you starting to get a grasp on the enormity of this endeavor?
OK…I’ve saved the best news of all for last…SRRSCCA has enough equipment and Trained personnel to accomplish ALL of the above. I don’t know about you but that is an AMAZING testament to the dedication and commitment of its members. So if you were pondering over my opening statement referring to History making. Do you believe me now?
I think two Separate Races deserve two sets of details, don’t you? So read each one carefully because I’m only going to write this once…OK? LOL
NOTE: If you plan on racing in both events. You will also need to pay for both events separately.
Event ONE; Racing in the DIRT RallyX style. This is the Day Event OUT at Pleasant Valley Raceway.
DETAILS: 8:00am Registration with TECH following right after 8ish…First car out 10ish. Any current SCCA card carrying Member can use the Pre-Register section on the right side of the front page. Event TWO; NocternoX (AutoX in the dark). This is the Evening Event IN at Expo Idaho Center.
DETAILS: 3:00pm Registration with TECH following right after 3:15…First car out 4:45ish. Any current SCCA card carrying Member can use the Pre-Register section on the right side of the front page. Fee: Pre-Registration $21.00 (Pre-Registration Deadline Midnight June 17th, 2010) On site Registration is $30. Of course the usual non-member fees apply.
Event ONE; This is the Day Event…The RallyX will be held at a brand new site for us, “Pleasant Valley Raceway”. This is the OUT Race because it’s way OUT south of Boise.
There’s two different routes to get OUT there. One way is to take Pleasant Valley Road south from the Boise Airport and the other route is to take I-84 to the Blacks Creek exit #64 and head West. Give yourself plenty of time to get OUT there…it’s a drive in itself just to get there…Naaa, Not really, I’m just jerkin’ Ur chain…it’s somewhere less than a hundred miles but more than three…LOL
If you want to watch or drive in the DIRT this is the place to be. This is SRRSCCA Maiden Voyage into RallyX so it will be something to see. As well as seeing some really fast cars race in the DIRT you’re all going to get an extra Bonus as well. Bully Dog is planning to have some very special Vehicles at the site…Sounds like some sponsorship has been worked out for this as well.
Sound Fun and Exciting? Then don’t just sit there thinking about it…Get yourself off the couch, dig out those Winter/Snow/Mud tires out…slap them on your car and go mix it up in the DIRT. (Some restrictions may apply…there it is…the fine print)
Event TWO; This is the Evening Event…NocternoX (AutoX in the dark) IN at Expo Idaho Center. This is the IN Race because it’s the IN town Race.
Our NocternoX races are always a ton of fun. It promises some really interesting views of cars running the course with their headlights on. Once it actually gets dark the headlights finally come on. They not only show how much the track undulates but also just how quickly some of these cars can get around corners. That in it’s self is almost like a light show of sorts…
Racing in the dark always changes things. During the daylight drivers can look ahead and see where they’re going…BUT IN THE DARK…things happen very, very quickly and those cones can even seem to be moving toward you as fast as you’re moving toward them. If you watch very closely you will even see cars twitching as Drivers make quick and abrupt adjustments to get back on racing line. Going FAST in the DARK is a completely different animal and will quickly get your adrenaline levels UP THERE…just what us racers are looking for.
Check this out…Some of those running the RallyX Day Event are going to try making it back in time to run with the NocternoX group. We’ve made special arrangements for that bunch to get their cars through Tech as they arrive.
NOW… Here’s what I see as the most interesting part of all…Since we (at the NocternoX) will already be running and the course will be HOT…the late arrivals (from the RallyX) won’t be able to pre-walk the course. They will get a map with the course design and that’s it. Sooooo LOL, Try to picture this one in your mind; We’re going to have some drivers Going from Driving in the DIRT all day to Driving on Pavement at night. Driving DIRT is not at all like Driving on Pavement…No sir, not at all. On top of that they’re taking their first run blind (not knowing the course). Then to top that off they get to do it on a DARK track in the headlights.
I am personally looking forward to watching for that scene to unfold…good luck to all you DoubleHeader Guys and Gals on that one…LOL Hey, that’s funny stuff to me…What? You think I’m sick or twisted? Hey now, these DoubleHeader brave souls are doing it to themselves…LOL, Nobody is forcing them…certainly not me, I just write the articles…TeeHee, TeeHee. Ok, Ok so maybe I am a little sadistic. I do know the WHOLE day is going to be FUN.
Me? My Momma didn’t raise no dummy, I’m only Driving the NocternoX.
So, now you know the IN and OUT of it…
See you all at the Races.
Robert
